Life insurance pays a tax-free lump sum (in most cases) to the people you name if you pass away. In Miami, most families choose term life (the lowest price, for 10 to 30 years), whole life (lifetime coverage with guaranteed cash value) or indexed universal life (IUL) (lifetime coverage with cash value linked to a market index). Price depends on your age, health, tobacco use and the amount, not your ZIP code: a healthy 40-year-old non-smoker paid on average $47 to $59 a month for $500,000 of 20-year term in 2026. Florida law adds strong protections: cash value is generally shielded from creditors, and you get at least 14 days to cancel a new policy for a full refund. NextGuard compares several A-rated carriers for you, in English, Spanish or Portuguese, including options for non-US citizens.
Average monthly rates for a $500,000, 20-year term policy, healthy non-smoker, 2026:
| Age | Women | Men |
|---|---|---|
| 25 | $30 | $37 |
| 30 | $31 | $38 |
| 35 | $37 | $47 |
| 40 | $47 | $59 |
| 45 | $69 | $90 |
| 50 | $102 | $137 |
| 55 | $168 | $231 |
| 60 | $286 | $395 |
$28 to $35 / month for 20-year term.
$86 to $109 / month for 20-year term.
Usually 2 to 3 times the non-smoker rate. Quitting for 12 months can change your class.

10, 15, 20 or 30 years of level premiums. Ideal for the mortgage years, raising kids or covering a business loan. Many policies convert to permanent coverage without a new exam.
Coverage that never expires, premiums that never rise and guaranteed cash value you can borrow against. The classic choice for leaving an inheritance.
Lifetime coverage with flexible premiums and cash value credited based on a market index, with a floor that protects against market losses. Best for disciplined, long-term savers.
Smaller policies, often $5,000 to $50,000, with simplified health questions to cover funeral costs and final bills. See our Florida final expense guide.
Term coverage sized to your Miami mortgage so your family keeps the house. Some versions include living benefits for critical illness.
Protects your company if an owner or key employee dies, and funds a buy-sell agreement so partners can buy out the family at a fair price.
More than half of Miami-Dade residents (54.5%) were born outside the US, and 75.3% speak a language other than English at home (US Census Bureau, 2020–2024). Many brokers turn these applicants away. We don't. What carriers typically look at:

Price depends on age, health, tobacco use, amount and policy type, not on your ZIP code. As a national benchmark, a $500,000 20-year term policy for a healthy non-smoker averaged about $47 to $59 a month at age 40 and $102 to $137 a month at age 50 (MoneyGeek, September 2026). We quote your exact rate from several A-rated carriers.
For a healthy 40-year-old non-smoker, a $1,000,000 20-year term policy averaged about $86 a month for women and $109 a month for men in 2026 (MoneyGeek). Younger applicants pay less; older applicants and tobacco users pay more.
Small term policies are usually inexpensive for healthy adults, but price does not drop in proportion to the amount because carriers charge a policy fee. At age 40, $250,000 of 20-year term averaged about $28 to $35 a month in 2026, so $100,000 is often only slightly cheaper. Final expense policies of $5,000 to $50,000 are priced differently and are common for seniors.
Often, yes. Green card holders generally have the same options as citizens. Many carriers also accept certain visa holders, such as H-1B, L-1, E-2, O-1 and TN, usually after a minimum time living in the US. Foreign nationals who live abroad may qualify through specialized programs when they have US ties like property, a business or bank accounts. Eligibility is decided case by case by each carrier.
Some carriers accept an ITIN or a foreign tax ID in specific situations, usually together with a valid visa and US ties. Options without an SSN are more limited, so we tell you upfront which carriers will review your case before you apply.
There is no single best company. The best policy is from a financially strong, A-rated carrier that offers the lowest price for your age, health and goals. As an independent broker we compare several carriers side by side instead of selling one company's products.
Florida has some of the strongest protections in the country. Under Florida Statutes 222.14, the cash surrender value of a life insurance policy on a Florida resident is generally exempt from creditors, and under 222.13 death proceeds paid to a named beneficiary are generally protected from the insured's creditors. Ask an attorney how this applies to you.
The Florida Life and Health Insurance Guaranty Association steps in for member insurers, generally up to $300,000 in benefits and $100,000 in net cash surrender value per life under Florida Statutes 631.717. That is one reason we only place coverage with financially strong carriers.
Yes. Many carriers offer accelerated underwriting that uses your application, prescription history and records instead of a lab exam, often for healthy applicants and amounts up to a set limit. If you have health conditions, a fully underwritten policy with an exam can sometimes be cheaper.
Yes. Florida gives you a free-look period of at least 14 days after delivery to review a new policy and return it for a full premium refund. After that, you can usually cancel term coverage at any time by stopping payments.
